Sad times

Fri Nov 6, 2009, 11:23 AM
I found out Wednesday that one of the guys I was in charge of, back in my days in Germany, he died. I knew he was very ill and we all talked to him a lot. He kept us up to date, but he went quiet, so a few of us just assumed he was better.... then I got the note. He had passed away. I'll miss him. He was a dear friend. Ryan Goes, you were a soldier and you'll always be missed.

Then, yesterday, Thursday November 5th, the shooting at Fort Hood. When I first glanced at the TV I thought it said "outside of fort hood" then I later learned it was in the base. This shook me up quite a bit. I understand first hand, what it means to be a soldier and be in danger. But to be shot at and killed on our own base, in OUR OWN COUNTRY!? Is there anything more absurd then that?

And then today! Someone goes out and shoots up his office building because he got laid off... I bet that he shot people that had NOTHING TO DO with him getting laid off.

Plus some personal problems are involved.

I just don't understand people anymore. Not at all. Maybe that's why I'm so closed off to others nowadays.

Hey, I just want to thank you. I looked at your gallery and your photos show a more human side of the Army that most people forget exists. Too often people think that all military life is PT and getting screamed at by your superiors. There are a lot of softer, more human moments that I'm so glad you've captured.

Here is a lesson in creative writing. First rule: Do not use semicolons. They are transvestite hermaphrodites representing absolutely nothing. All they do is show you've been to college.

One (slightly retired) soldier to another; I feel ya. Man, I almost went to Bosnia a few years ago. So glad I didn't have to. x.x

I was in with the Canadian Scottish Reg. doing radio, and was starting to learn stuff so I could be transfered to NATO before I got into my accident and was stuck going home... for good! *whines*

aww, sorry to hear that. I got injured too right before I was going to either re-enlist or get out... kinda decided enough was enough and came home. Now I'm off to college. I really like your art btw
